JPL competition with individual research project

My individual research project connects to the JPL way in ways I did not know they were related. For example the nail clippers have a claw thing with which they close when the end points are pushed together. There needs to be the best mechanical advantage when closing the nail clipper so it not hard clipping excess nail.
